  • Catalysing Inclusive, Representative, Equitable Energy reNovation wavE (IRENE)

    IRENE is a European initiative to tackle energy poverty through comprehensive energy efficiency renovations in multi-family residential buildings, prioritizing vulnerable households and neighborhoods. The project promotes community participation via Energy Justice Centers and One-Stop Shops (OSS) to overcome legal, financial, social, and technical barriers.

    Pilot projects will take place in Madrid (Spain), Vilnius (Lithuania), Leuven and Vilvoorde (Belgium).

    Main expected results:

    227 buildings renovated.

    7,440 vulnerable households with reduced energy costs.

    17,358 beneficiaries.

    500 residents trained in energy efficiency.

    111 training programs and coordination structures established.

    Reduction of 68,662 tCO₂e/year and savings of 72 GWh/year.

    3 GWh/year of renewable energy generated.

    €293 million in sustainable energy investments mobilized.

    Coordinated by Global Factor S.L, the consortium brings together organizations from Spain, Belgium, Lithuania, and the Netherlands, including the city halls of Leuven, Madrid and Vilvoorde, CSIC, Delft University of Technology, the Lithuanian Public Urban Renewal Office, the Lithuanian Consumers Alliance, ANESE, and HELPEU.
